Description
Up for sale is this 1960s (likely 1964 – 1967) Kent Polaris II 545 electric guitar made in Japan.
This guitar features a tobacco sunburst finish and two single-coil pickups, along with a volume and tone control. The pickguard is somewhat of a brushed metal finish and almost looks white in the pictures. The neck is maple and has a dot-inlay bound rosewood fingerboard.
There are some minor nicks, scratches and chips seen in the pictures along the body (front, sides and back). The neck also has a few dings along the treble-side near the neck heal, as seen in pictures. There is also some minor paint chipping on the headstock, as seen in pictures. The pots are original, and while the pickup selector knob is vintage 1960s, it is not original. The switch itself, however, is.

The 1960s guitars from Japan all have a very similar look and feel. This guitar is vintage 1960s, and it sounds great. It is lightweight and, despite the full size scale, rather small. It is comfortable to hold. The selector switch is set up in a slightly unusual way: when it’s turned closest to you, both pickups are activated. When it is in the middle position, the bridge pickup is activated, and farthest from you enables the neck pickup. The volume and tone controls work very well, and overall it is easy to operate.
This Kent guitar is very similar to the very first guitar I ever played, which was a Japanese Teisco. Aside from Kent, there were a bunch of brands that came out of Japan in the early to late 1960s, such as Teisco, Guyatone, Kawai, Imperial and plenty of others.
