Description
Up for sale is this vintage 1955 Gretsch 6182 Corvette electric guitar. The first word I would use to describe this guitar is “handsome”. It is warm instrument and sounds amazing. The guitar features a beautiful maple sunburst top. The the unbound mahogany neck has pearloid dot inlays with original frets attached to a 16″ wide all maple laminate body.
All hardware is original including the trapeze tailpiece stamped Gretsch, the single-coil DeArmond pickup, label inside the f-holes, volume and tone controls, compensated rosewood bridge, tuners and pickguard.
The guitar has wear along the back and sides of the neck. The neck was reset sometime in its past. The original pickguard was cracked and repaired. There are minor abrasions, dings, paint chips, rubbing and scratches throughout the surface. There is mild lacquer “checking” in the finish. The neck reset appears to have some minor touchups near the heal. The trapeze tailpiece is moved about a 1/4″ off center (toward the treble side). The slightly offset trapeze appears intentional, likely done during the neck reset to maintain optimal string alignment.
The guitar plays fantastically and sounds incredible. The pickup is strong, the tone controls work well, and the body tone is excellent. It is setup with new 12-gauge flat wound strings.
