Guyatone Kent Copa 532 Electric Guitar 1965 Sunburst

Guyatone Kent Copa 532 Electric Guitar 1965 Sunburst

Here is the classic mid 1960s (likely around 1965) Kent Copa 532 electric guitar made by Guyatone. This is the same model that was used by Lou Reed and Sterling Morrison from the Velvet Underground. This modest guitar sounds great and has the vintage appeal that you want.

The guitar features a rotating tremolo-bar system, which works very well and is easy to use. There are three volume controls and one tone for the overall sound. The selector switch allows for the following options: bridge only pickup, neck only pickup, center pickup, all pickups. All of the electronics work and there is very little grounding hum in the guitar.

The action on the guitar is very good and the neck is nearly flat/straight (see pictures). The frets are all in good shape, and have plenty of life left in them. The neck features a combination of trapezoid “pearl” inlays as well as dot inlays at the 12th fret.

The headstock has the original Kent logo and tuners. On the back of the headstock there is a “Made in Japan” label as well as the original 532 sticker.

I took the pickguard off to fix a loose wire on the input jack and noticed that some soldering appears to have been repaired over the years, but everything works.

The pickups are all original and have been secured with newer nuts under the pickguard. There is one original composite nut still in place but the others have disintegrated. These nuts are used to control the height of the pickups in the pickguard. This is only noticeable if you take the pickguard off and does not affect anything.

It has the original sunburst finish and is in very good condition overall. It comes with the original case.

– Tailpiece / tremolo cover missing
