Description
This is a vintage 1967 Fender Stratocaster. The body was refinished in the 1970s and the neck has been over sprayed at some time in the 1970s – 1980s. The body was originally Olympic White.
Neck:
- Stamped and dated 13 SEP 67B, with a rosewood fingerboard and original frets.
- Action is smooth, the neck is straight, and it is incredibly comfortable in the hand.
- Original decal/logo is intact — shows five patent numbers (typical of some late 1967 examples using older decals from 1965–66).
- The original finish is untouched below the more recent lacquer overspray.
- Neck plate serial number dates to 1967.
- Tuners are original. There is a plugged screw hole near the Low E, which might mean there was another tuner on at some point.
Pickups:
- Are all original and date to 1965. They sound wonderful.
Pots, knobs, 3-way switch, pickguard:
- Pots, knobs, 3-way switch and pickguard are all original.
- The pots date to 1966 with original wiring.
- The knobs are in worn condition.
- The pickguard has some minor cracks near some screw holes and the truss rod notch is widened.
- The metal shielding on the back appears original, but not 100% certain.
Bridge, saddles, tremolo and block:
- All seem original, however, the tremolo block is likely a later replacement.
Body:
- The body is alder and has a more pronounced contour on the back than is typically seen for this period.
- Pickup cavities were re-tooled to accommodate height-adjustment screws of modern pickups (see pictures), which were temporarily put in during the 1970s. The tremolo-block opening appears to be slightly squared off during this time too.
- Fender’s 1960s custom-color process was to finish Stratocasters first in a three-tone sunburst and then apply a new finish on top, i.e. the Olympic White you see here. The later refinished Olympic White paint is worn-through to the original Olympic White, and you can see parts of the base sunburst layer visible in the lower bout, sides and parts of the back.
Original hardshell case is included and in very good – excellent condition.
Reasonable offers considered — serious buyers encouraged to reach out with questions or interest.
It’s not uncommon to find 1967 Stratocasters built with pickups or pots from earlier years (1965–66), as Fender was using up older inventory during this low-production transition year.
1967 was Fender’s lowest-production Stratocaster year of the decade. This is a striking example of a rare Strat from the time. The Olympic White finish (worn through to the original sunburst), original pickups and electronics, and Hendrix-era vibe, make this Strat stand out.
