Vintage Hondo 748 Deluxe Mark II – Les Paul Style – Black Beauty Electric Guitar
This is a circa 1979 – 1984 Hondo 748 Deluxe Mark II solid-body electric guitar done (Les Paul Style) in all black. It is in excellent cosmetic and playing condition.
Hondo did an amazing job with the build quality of this instrument, featuring a solid “pancake” style mahogany body and mahogany neck. Not only does it feel comparable to my Gibson Les Paul, but without comparing it to my Gibson, by itself it feels smooth and quick.
The humbucker pickups (8.4k Ohm rhythm and 7.5k Ohm bridge) paired with its solid mahogany body makes this guitar resonate beautifully. Hondo was really pushing the quality of this guitar to be competitive with Gibson at the time. The electronics work cleanly, and the pots are smooth and clean.
The guitar has a glued set-neck, bound edges, and rosewood fingerboard with trapezoidal pearloid inlays. The frets, are in very good condition and the neck action is excellent along its straight neck.
The headstock features its original Grover tuners and the Hondo logo and “748 Deluxe Mark II” imprinted on the truss-rod cover.
Condition Notes (Please Review Photos): This guitar has been loved and played but remains structurally excellent. Cosmetic wear includes minor surface swirls, small dings, a finish nick near the control knobs, and a small wood chip on the rear tip of the headstock corner. The original plastic pickguard is missing. The cream rhythm pickup ring has a small crack, and the plastic input jack plate is cracked down the middle. There is a visible, stable laminate factory wood seam visible on the edge profile running towards the jack plate.
A brand-new fitted plush hardshell case is included to ensure maximum protection.
