Description
This guitar is gorgeous. This pre-war 1936 Martin R-18 archtop acoustic sounds incredible, has amazing sustain, resonates fully / brightly, and is beautifully sized. The more I look at this guitar and play it, the more I think it’s fantastic.
Everything on this guitar is original including the sunburst-style finish and the hardware. The serial number is 67699, which places it firmly in 1936. The model number, the Martin logo and the serial number are all stamped inside the body directly under the strings on the bottom board. All bracing inside is in excellent condition. The binding is very interesting on this guitar. Both the top and bottom bindings are tortoise shell and are subtle and quite elegant. Overall the guitar is in excellent condition. There are no cracks or repairs anywhere. There are several minor nicks and blemishes on the top surface and several buckle marks on the back (see the pictures). The Grover tailpiece has the Martin logo on it and is in very good condition.
