Description
Up for sale is this traditional Persian or Azerbaijani 8-stringed Tār / Tar instrument, possibly called an Iranian Lute. My best guess is that this is from the 1960s to the 1970s based on wood aging and finish aging.
It features a mulberry wood body and possible pear wood peg tuners. The body is carved from one piece of wood and is quite beautiful.
The body consists of two resonate sections covered in animal skin. Both skin coverings have small tears in them.
The frets consist of metal wire wrapped around the neck. The carved body is joined to the neck with a joint that sits just above the body. The head is joined to the neck at a joint as well. The bridge sits on top of a rawhide piece, which is then laid on top of the skin covering. There is also a piece of leather sandwiched on the bottom edge of the tār between the side and the strings.
The instrument measures 30.25″ long.
