Description
Collector’s Note:
This instrument was previously priced lower during a private collection downsizing. It is now relisted to reflect its true rarity, originality, and historical significance. Harp guitars from this era—especially with original finishes, sympathetic string extensions, and intact hardware—are nearly impossible to find in this condition.
About the Instrument:
This is a rare and visually stunning harp guitar, likely made in Germany between 1907 and 1910, featuring dual flame maple necks, ornate rosewood trim, and a sympathetic string extension that adds rich resonance and natural reverb. It’s fully restored for playability while retaining all original components.
The label inside reads Wiroso-Röthner Gitarre, and while it does not include a date, and the label is not original, the construction methods, design, and materials align closely with other pre-WWI German harp guitars.
Key Features:
-
Original tuners, bridge, binding, and hardware
-
9-course harp extension with fully functional tuners
-
Flame maple necks; 5-piece construction on guitar side
-
Rosewood bridge and pass-through string channels
-
Inlaid rosette and Brazilian rosewood binding
Condition & Restoration:
-
Neck shim added under fretboard (~1/8″) for better action (reversible)
-
Top, side, and back cracks professionally repaired
-
Bridge shows slight lift on lower-bout edge but remains stable
-
All components are original to the guitar
Playability:
The guitar side plays cleanly with a smooth feel and solid projection. The harp side sympathetically resonates with the guitar’s notes, adding natural ambience. This isn’t just a showpiece—it’s a functional, soulful instrument with over 100 years of life and voice.
