Ovation Custom Legend 1669 Acoustic Electric Guitar Deep Bowl 1980s

Ovation Custom Legend 1669 Acoustic Electric Guitar Deep Bowl 1980s

Offered here is this American-made Ovation 1669 Custom Legend Black Beauty acoustic-electric guitar. It has a deep bowl and is likely from the mid 1980s and not later.

Due to minor surface/finish cracks on the top board and an imperfection in an area where the back bowl joins the top board, the guitar is being listed in Good Condition, and not Very Good Condition (see more information below).

There is something so beautiful about this guitar. It has a very elegant look but at the same time it has a certain edge about it. It is very well made and designed.
The sound that comes from this guitar is spectacular. I have it set up with new 11 gauge strings and it sounds full, rich, warm and bright all at the same time. Playing the guitar acoustically, without it plugged in, is a pleasure. It is very full and rich.

When it’s plugged in, the guitar sounds simply like an amplified acoustic and doesn’t sound artificial or very different from when it is unplugged. The volume and tone knobs are sandwiched together and turn independent of one another. The tone knob was cracked and re-glued.

This guitar is US made, has a cutaway body, and six-inch deep body with abalone trim. The ebony bridge is spectacular as it is done in carved relief. The tuners are gold and pearl and are all original.

The neck is beautifully done with mother-of-pearl / abalone inlays and an ebony fingerboard.  It is a three-part neck, which is barely noticeable through the black color (see pictures).

Condition:
– There is a hairline crack in the finish in the lower bought (see pictures), which appears to to along the wood seam joining the left and right sides together. This is minor.

– Another minor item affecting condition is that there are a number of small hairline cracks that are just in the gloss finish and not in the wood, along the lower bought on the right side of the body (see video and pictures). It is so hard to see these because of the black body, but if you hold the guitar just right, you can see them.

– Lastly, the back bowl came away from the top board in that same area, which is what likely caused the surface cracks due to simple movement/flexing. The bowl was re-glued to the top board, but it is not perfectly lined up and sticks out a little less than a millimeter for a few inches along the bottom edge. This is probably not noticeable in the pictures, but worth noting. I tried to capture this in the video too.

– The tone knob was cracked and re-glued.

– The label inside is partially there.

All the good stuff now…
– The neck is straight and the action is great.
– The tuners work very well.
– The action is very good.- All of the inlays are in excellent condition.- The frets and bridge are in very good condition.- All hardware is original.
– There is feedback when the volume is turned way up. It sounds optimal when the guitars volume is set to about mid-range.
