Description
Offered here is this 1960s Herk Favilla F-8H acoustic dreadnought guitar, made in the USA. Solid top, sides and back.
This is full sounding guitar and plays smoothly and well.
The guitar has been repaired, as seen in the pictures. I purchased it this way.
The guitar is well made and quite attractive despite its obvious cosmetic flaws and repairs. It features a solid top, sides and back.
The top board is a 5/32″ thick piece of book-matched spruce. The sides are also around the same thickness and are mahogany. The pickguard has an interesting pattern.
The neck is straight, beautiful and has a rosewood fingerboard and mahogany back. The dot inlays are big and bright. The frets are in excellent condition.
The nut appears original and is setup a little differently than a standard nut. The low E and high E strings start nearly a 1/4″ in from the side, which makes the strings feel a little closer together as if the nut width was 1 9/16″. The actual nut width is 1 3/4″.
The repairs done to this guitar were done likely because the guitar was dropped and the neck came off, taking with it some of the sides and top. As a repaired guitar, it is likely stronger now than it was when it was made. I did not do these repairs. The neck was reset, and the sides were fitted back together. Evidence of this is seen on the outside and inside.
There are various small dings and scratches as seen in the pictures. A piece of the binding was replaced on the bottom bout. The low E tuner is a little stiff, but still tunes well. The grommet on this tuner was replaced as well.
