Vintage 1962 Harmony Monterey H-1325 Acoustic Archtop Guitar w/ Gretsch Country Gentleman Filtertron and Supertron Pickups, plus wiring harness.
Up for sale is this 1962 Harmony Monterey (H-1325) acoustic archtop fitted with a vintage 1966 Gretsch pickup and wiring harness set. The pickup set was originally designed for a Gretsch Chet Aktins Country Gentleman guitar. The harness was likely direct-ordered from the factory in the mid 1960s and installed then. The wiring harness with pickups (Filter ‘Tron pickup in the neck and Super ‘Tron pickup in the bridge) and pots is all original. The pots date to week #47 1965. Typically, the two pickups would be installed in the opposite positions on a Gretsch, but due to the Harmony’s wider string spacing, these pickups were installed the way you see them.
Overall, the guitar is in very good condition. There are no cracks or breaks of any kind. A set of posts were installed under the bridge to reinforce the archtop, much like you would find in a violin or cello. There is a line visible extending from the two switches which is a mark in the finish and not a crack.
The pickups sound amazing in this guitar and has tone that is deep, clean and articulate. This guitar matched with these pickups is a perfect pairing. The volume knobs are smooth and function as a master volume and two individual volume controls. The two switches control the pickup selection and tone separately.
The neck is comfortable in profile and the action is good throughout (see specs below). The frets are original as well as the tuners, bridge, and tailpiece.
The guitar comes with a perfectly-fitted vintage hardshell case. I’m not sure if the case is original, because it looks like a case I had from a 1941 Epiphone.
