1949 Epiphone Zephyr Deluxe Regent – Rare Tone Spectrum Pickups – Restored – OHSC

Up for sale is this 1949 Epiphone Zephyr Deluxe Regent electric archtop guitar, featuring Epiphone’s “Tone Spectrum” pickups(used only 1948-49). This restored 77-year-old archtop plays beautifully, and has a warm, rich, and articulate sound. It is a vintage guitar from the 1940s and is not a modern reproduction. Its original hardshell case is in fair to good condition. The guitar has been carefully restored and is in great playing condition. This guitar is not “collector’s grade” but it is a road-proven / solid sounding vintage Epiphone.

Condition Overview

  • Original: Tuners, wooden bridge, neck/headstock inlays, bindings, tailpiece, pickups, pots, and jack
  • Neck: Straight with low, comfortable action
  • Frets: Thin, low, with life remaining
  • Replaced: Tone/volume surrounds, pickguard + bracket, switch surround
  • Bridge pickup re-waxed (re-potted) – (original windings – not rewound)
  • Neck pickup lead wire partially replaced (original windings – not rewound)
  • Both pickups work perfectly and sound fantastic
  • Pickup ring: Handmade wooden replica for bridge (original half included)

Restoration Notes

  • Body refinished; during the 1960s the guitar was refinished in red, and then later gold
  • Two spruce-filled plugs/repairs to close holes from prior non-original controls
  • A structurally solid neck repair on back side of neck near 2nd – 3rd frets (may not be noticeable in the pictures)
  • One repaired crack on top board; two repaired heel cracks (structurally solid – see pictures)
