1950s Kay K1 or K1-B Jumbo Cutaway Archtop Acoustic Guitar w/ Sunburst Finish

1950s Kay K1 or K1-B Jumbo Cutaway Archtop Acoustic Guitar w/ Sunburst Finish

$935.00

This is a 1950s Kay K1 or K1-B jumbo cutaway archtop guitar with a sunburst finish. The guitar has a solid spruce top and block inlays. The four-part binding is along the top and has a one-piece binding along the bottom edges of the body. The wood bridge, trapeze tailpiece and tuners are all original. The buttons on the tuners are replaced.

This is probably a higher-end model than the typical K1 due to the block inlays and binding.
Its jumbo body measures 17.25″ wide at the lower bout. It has a solid top and bottom, and ply sides. The maple neck has a rosewood fingerboard and block inlays. The top board is not a carved top, but is a “heat-pressed” top board. It is solid wood. The finish on the body is 95% all original, except where there was a touch-up for a repaired crack under the pickguard between the top of the treble-side f-hole and the cutaway. You cannot see it in the pictures, because it is covered by the pickguard. It is structurally perfect and secure.

The neck is very straight and the frets are in great condition. The guitar is beautiful to play and has easy action for an archtop. The edge of the neck, on both sides, is touched up and resprayed from a fingerboard repair. The back of the headstock had a minor repair under one of the tuner screw holes and was also resprayed. The first fret is replaced.

There are minor nicks and abrasions along the top, bottom and edges. Please see pictures for condition.
The original case is included, although it is in rough condition (as seen in the pictures).
