Description
This guitar is a keeper. In fact it was in my collection for a bit. This is an American made 1959 Guild X-50 B blonde archtop guitar. These guitars are not common and are quite desirable. Guild made these guitars in the NYC / NJ area in the 1950s. This one was built in Hoboken, NJ in 1959.
The original P-90 pickup, mixed with the hollow body, sounds incredible. It has a very similar neck profile to a 1950s Gibson and is very similar to Gibson’s ES-125.
Vintage USA-made electric guitars from the 1950s are getting harder and harder to find. This one is in great condition and sounds amazing as well. The volume and tone controls work very well and are clear. The action is great and the overall play-ability of this guitar is excellent.
There are some minor blemishes and marks here and there, but nothing worth noting. The pickguard was broken and repaired.
There is a rectangular spot on the back of the guitar (see pictures) that is lighter in color. I cannot figure out what made this spot lighter. It is possible there was some imperfection in the finish that was refinished.
The binding has been replaced and matches the color for this vintage instrument. It has been restored using the using the exact dimensions of the original binding.
Everything else is original on the guitar, including the pickup, tuners, volume and tone controls / pots, tailpiece, bridge, etc.
Everything looks original on the guitar, including the pickup, tuners, volume and tone controls / pots, tailpiece, bridge, etc.
The original label is inside the body. The serial number and model number are written on the label, but they are extremely faded. The serial number is also stamped into the back of the headstock.
