Description
1974–1975 Gibson ES-345TDSV Stereo Varitone – Factory Gold Flake – All Original – Exceptional Condition
This is an original 1974–1975 Gibson ES-345TD Stereo in a rare and unusual factory Gold Flake finish. Factory custom finishes from this era were typically special-order instruments and produced in very limited quantities.
Gold flake finishes were occasionally seen on special-order ES-335 models in the mid-1970s, but they are exceedingly rare on ES-345s. I have personally not seen any other ES-345s finished like this. The sparkle lacquer is untouched and appears completely original to the instrument.
Under blacklight inspection, the finish displays a consistent aged lacquer glow across the entire guitar; top, back, sides, and neck, with no signs of overspray or refinish. The aging is uniform and correct throughout.
This guitar is all original, including:
• Original patent-number humbuckers
• Original stereo wiring harness
• Original 6-position Varitone circuit
• Original Bigsby vibrato
• Original tuners, hardware, and plastics
• Original case
The stereo output functions properly and a stereo cable is included.
The Varitone circuit operates exactly as intended:
• Position 1 (Bypass): Full, open ES-335-style tone
• Positions 2–6: Progressive notch filtering that reduces low frequencies and narrows the bandwidth, producing increasingly focused, hollow tonal textures
Tonally, this ES-345 is lively, articulate, and dynamic. It has excellent acoustic resonance and translates beautifully when amplified.
The neck is straight, stable, and comfortable. Action is smooth and low, and the guitar plays effortlessly up and down the fingerboard.
Cosmetically, the instrument is beautiful. The Gold Flake finish paired with the cherry back and sides is striking.
The original Gibson hardshell case is included.
