c1964 Kay 6100 Country Flat Top Acoustic Dreadnought Guitar Natural Finish

$435.00

In stock

This is a c1964 Kay 6100 “Country” flat-top acoustic dreadnought guitar. It is in very good condition. It has a full and warm sound, that projects well.

The guitar features a gorgeous spruce top in excellent condition with its original pickguard, bridge and saddle. The bridge was reattached. The sound hole has a double inlay.

The neck has a rosewood fingerboard and the classic Kay dot pattern with double inlay dots at the 5th, 9th and 15th frets. The neck has binding around the edges and gives it a more refined look. The action is good enough through the first 5-7 frets. There is a slight upward tilt to the neck which increases the action towards the 9-14th frets (0.13” at the 12th fret on low E).

Parts of the neck binding between the nut and the 3rd fret have been replaced. There is minor rubbing wear that runs below the neck binding on the treble side from the 1st fret to about the 14th fret. The frets are in good condition, but do show signs of wear (doesn’t affect playing).

The tuners are vintage Kay tuners and were put on to replace modern ones that were on previously. The tortoise-style heel cover is showing signs of wear and loss (see pictures). The truss rod works and the cover is replaced.

The mahogany sides are in very good condition with very minor wear. The color is excellent. There is some minor abrasion on the lower-bottom edge on the treble side (not visible in the pictures). The back board has some wear through the top layer of veneer to the second layer in various spots. There is a very slight depression in the top board that can be seen in the last photo with the ruler laying on top of it. You can barely slide a quarter under the space between the ruler and the area that is slightly depressed (see pictures).
