Description
This is a 1930s Kay acoustic guitar. My best guess is that this is a K6 model, but I’m not 100% sure. I do know this is from the 1930s based on the label inside and the headstock design/logo.
This guitar is really a beautiful instrument, both visually and tonally. It is easy to play and has a full, deep, warm and loud sound.
The body features a spruce top and mahogany sides, which gives it a full and warm sound overall. The body also has a gorgeous tortoise-shell binding on the top and bottom boards. The tortoise-shell style pickguard is unusual in shape, but it is all original. The soundhole is also lined with a tortoise-shell style binding.
The neck is all mahogany with a rosewood fingerboard and tortoise-shell style binding all around the edge. The fingerboard has double-dot inlays at the 5th, 9th and 15th frets. There is also a tortoise-shell style neck heel end.
The neck is straight and the frets are in very good condition. There is no buzzing when played. The body resonates very well and there are no loose braces inside.
There are various marks, nicks and blemishes all over the body as seen in the pictures. The back has quite a number of scratches. The top has several scratches. The guitar shows wear that would be typical for a 90+ year old instrument. There is minor loss in the binding along the top board and possibly a small binding repair. There are no cracks or repairs.
Overall, the condition is good to very good considering the age. It has a very warm feeling. Everything on this guitar is all original.
