Vintage Antique Early 20th Century Large 16″ Chinese Ceremonial Drum

Vintage Antique Early 20th Century Large 16″ Chinese Ceremonial Drum

Up for sale is this large late early 20th century Chinese ceremonial drum. It features a black Laquer drum body with some loss to the finish. A rudimentary translation of the stamp reads, ” The old man the temple plays the drum of the phoenix. Made in Huangzhai.”

It is also stamped “Made in China” on both sides, which I’m assuming was added later for export purposes.

The drum body might be older than the 20th century.

There are several small screw holes in the drum head on one side and on the same side there is a hole that’s about the size of a nickel. There are various chips to the lacquer finish as seen in the pictures. The drum head is tight and has a full deep sound.

It measures approximately 16″ in diameter and 9″ high.
