1949 Epiphone Zephyr Deluxe Regent – Rare Tone Spectrum Pickups – Restored – OHSC

Beautiful and rare 1949 Epiphone Zephyr Deluxe Regent electric archtop guitar, featuring Epiphone’s short-lived “Tone Spectrum” pickups(used only 1948–49). These were replaced by the New York-style units in 1950, making this a historically significant transitional model.

This 76-year-old archtop has been professionally restored and plays beautifully. It is warm, rich, and articulate with the classic late-’40s Epiphone sound. Comes with its original hardshell case in fair to good condition.

Condition Overview

  • Original: Tuners, wooden bridge, neck/headstock inlays, bindings, tailpiece, pickups, pots, and jack
  • Neck: Straight with low, comfortable action
  • Frets: Thin, low, with life remaining
  • Replaced: Tone/volume surrounds, pickguard + bracket, switch surround
  • Electronics:
  • Bridge pickup re-waxed (re-potted)
  • Neck pickup lead wire partially replaced
  • Both pickups work perfectly and sound fantastic
  • Pickup ring: Handmade wooden replica for bridge (original half included)

Restoration Notes

  • Body refinished; during the 1960s the guitar was refinished in red, and then later gold
  • Two spruce-filled plugs/repairs to close holes from prior non-original controls
  • One repaired top crack; two professionally repaired heel cracks (structurally solid – see pictures)

Specs

  • Nut Width: 1 23/32″
  • Scale Length: 25.5″
  • Overall Length: 43 ¾”
  • Body Depth: 4 ½”
  • Body Width: 17 ½”
  • Action @ 12th (E/E): 1.4 mm
  • Neck Radius: 9.5″
