Description
Up for sale is a 1920s Kunishima Model No. 4 bowl-back mandolin, made in Japan. This is an ornate and well-crafted example with a 22-rib bowl, mother-of-pearl and abalone inlays, and a carved decorative endplate. The original Kunishima label is intact inside the body.
Condition
- Playable with good action
- Overall very good cosmetic condition for its age
- Minor wear on the top, edges, and lower portion of the side of the bowl – all consistent with age
- Small repaired crack near the fingerboard
- Decorative endplate has shrunken and lifted from the bottom edge of the bowl
- Restored top layer on the headstock
- First six frets are newer
