Description
Up for sale is this circa 1920s Kumalae Style 2 Soprano ukulele made from koa wood. The ukulele has been restored in various places and is in good working condition. It has a very warm and classic sound.
It has beautiful wood both on the top and bottom and features an inlaid rope binding around the top edge and around the sound hole.
The back has been reattached and the cracks have been braced and secured. The back was off of it for a long time and due to some natural wood shrinking, the some of the edges on the top bout do not line up 100% as seen in the pictures. There are small spaces between the back board and the sides near the top bout next to the neck.
The tuners are replaced and the there is lacquer wear on the top head stock near the label. There were a couple of repairs to the top-right side of the upper bout. Some of the binding inlay was replaced. The top board was also cracked in one spot and repaired. There is minor finish wear on the back and sides in various places. Lastly, the 12th fret was missing and added.
The top label reads: “Kumalae Gold Award P.I.E. 1915 – UA MAU KA EA O KA AINA I KA PONO HAWAII”.
