Description
This is a circa 1920s Kaholas and Co Ukulele O’Hawaii soprano ukulele, most likely made in Hawaii. It has a Koa wood body (sides, top and bottom). Later models were made by Gretsch in the 1940s and 1950s. The label inside the body reads: “Ukulele’O’Hawaii, Kaholas & Co. Highest Grade for Tone Quality and Workmanship”. There are no other labels or logos on the ukulele. It has its original finish and color. The wood is really beautiful on this ukulele. The sides have several subtle changes in color common to koa wood and the top has less variation in color but still is an attractive wood. The back of the ukulele has a wide grain pattern. The back is also slightly shaped, meaning the makers bowed the back out a little bit to give it a fuller sound. The tuners are replaced but work well with the ukulele. The soundhole has a double-ringed inlay around it. The ukulele has a very full and loud sound for its size. It is in good overall condition with the following notes:
- Neck is straight and frets are in very good condition.
- The ukulele has its original finish and is in very good condition with just a few blemishes or minor dings. (see pictures)
- Bridge is original and works well.
- The neck and body are in sound structural-working condition.
- There are two very small hairline surface cracks on the top board (see pictures), that do not seem to go through to the other side of the board, so they are superficial.
- There are two repaired hairline cracks on the back board. The cracks are professionally repaired and there is no impact on sound quality. (see pictures).
